Hair has always been a significant way that people across cultures express themselves. However, if you’re like us, you know that hair comes with a lot of ‘extensions’ so to speak…
For centuries we have been restricted by societal standards and patriarchal expectations that impact the way we present ourselves and our hair to the world. This month we are calling folks to detangle the politics around hair, redefine the standards for ourselves, and reclaim our own visions of beauty.
Whether you’ve already decolonized your hair care, or are still unlearning the whitewashing of natural textures, we invite you to come and share your experiences. We want to hear the tips and tricks you have discovered that work for you. As we comb through our hair care methods, we will shed the knots of judgments and let our full selves shine through.
Detangling the Stigmas covered how our natural hair is easily oppressed & politicized but is also a tool for self-discovery, worth, and cultural expression. The community shared empowering stories embracing the history, genetics, and natural qualities of all the hairs on our bodies. Together, we reclaimed our beautiful hair from within and continue to show up authentically in our everyday lives…
We’re asking…
How have European standards and societal expectations
affected your relationship with your hair?
What tips and tricks have helped you care for and style your natural hair texture?
also a major part of Buddhism and its meditation practices.
How do we reclaim autonomy of our natural hair
back against the patriarchy?
