At The Mixed Space,
You Are Home.
Always
2022 marked another incredible year for monthly meetups at The Mixed Space. Our meetups have proven to be one of the most healing experiences for our community. We explored themes, learned from experts, and listened to your journeys navigating mixed identities. We thank all of you for building this beautiful space of acceptance, groundedness, and comradery.
As The Mixed Space evolves, we have decided to pause our monthly meetups. Our team is excited to create fresh experiences for our growing community in 2023. During this time away, we aim to improve and provide a bountiful home for the mixed diasporas. We will continue to connect, learn, and be seen through blogs, social posts, and video content.
We warmly welcome your feedback as we write the new chapter of The Mixed Space. Connect with us in the comments section, stay tuned, and remember that you are always whole, never half.
Until we meet(up) again,

you whole.
We are a place of belonging and growth.
— Meetup Attendee

Whole and
never half.
Mixedness is a superpower.
All experiences are valid, but not the same.
Claiming identity means taking responsibility.
At the meetup, storytelling helps our community feel truly uplifted, supported, and validated. It is a brave space where we make the world a more inclusive and better place.
If you identify as intersectional, mixed identity, an ally, advocate, or a multidimensional human being, the space is for YOU. We encourage all our attendees to bring stories, experiences, and expertise to each meetup.

Where, how, or with whom
do you feel most at home?
What rituals do you practice to make
any place feel like home?
How are people impacted when you leave
and make another place home?
01
Please raise your hand to add a comment / question. We encourage members to snap or wave when they hear something that resonates with them.
02
Say “ouch” if someone says something that hurts you. Say “oops” and genuinely apologize for the ways your intention did not match your impact.
03
I’M SEXY / SASSY /
STRONG / SACRED
To break the habit of over-apologizing, especially amongst women & femmes, we choose alternate options in lieu of “I’m sorry.”
04
Are you someone who knows they take up a lot of space in a conversation? Alternatively, do you prefer to listen and sometimes can’t find the right moment to interject? Try to be mindful of these behaviors and move in and move out when needed. This helps other people do the same.
05
Name yours and respect others (eg. pronouns, racial identifiers).
06
We can’t control other members’ responses but we can make sure we’re putting thought into our words and being held accountable if need be.
07
Protect people in the space by letting the group know if you are about to share something that can be triggering.
08
Share your learning, not the other person’s privacy. Ask permission from the person before sharing content outside of the group.
09
This is a space for constructive dialogue. Avoid making personal attacks and focus on “I” statements.
10
TMS moderators see conflict as an opportunity for shared growth. We believe if the community guidelines are followed this can be achieved.

to Expect at the Meetups
Come prepared, and show up in style to the meetup by downloading our booklet and TMS-themed Zoom backgrounds. We’d love to see your face: turning your camera on is encouraged but not a must. We are happy you’re here, so come as you are!
We encourage all our attendees to bring stories, experiences, and expertise to each monthly topic. Keeping our community guidelines in mind and practice, the meetup space is for YOU.
We invite all attendees to contribute to the board.
The whiteboard is used as a space for TMS members to share their takeaways from the meetup, name the commitments we pledge to make, and a space where people can have fun and draw whatever resonated with them at the event.
As an inclusive space, we are mindful to narrate the community efforts on the whiteboard, especially for those who are visually impaired.
